Stephen Derek Heighway was born 25 November 1947 and is a former footballer who was part of the hugely successful Liverpool team of the 1970s. He is regarded as one of the greatest ever Liverpool players, he was ranked 23rd in the 100 Players Who Shook The Kop poll.

He was signed by Bill Shankly who was rebuilding his Liverpool side in May 1970 and went onto play for Liverpool 329 times, scoring 50 goals, in a playing career at Liverpool that lasted from 1970-1981.

He also went onto represent the Republic of Ireland between 1970 -1981 winning 34 caps.

He became academy director at Liverpool in a period when the club brought through such players as Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher. He retired in 2007 but later rejoined the Liverpool academy in a consultancy role which he currently holds.
