Paulo Nutini
Paolo Nutini (Paolo Giovanni Nutini) was born on 9 January 1987 in Paisley, Scotland. He is a Scottish singer-songwriter whose music has drawn on pop, rock, soul and R&B. Nutini is notable for a series of commercially successful UK albums and for a vocal style often associated with classic soul influences, alongside contemporary songwriting.
Nutini left school as a teenager and pursued music after being signed to Atlantic Records in the mid-2000s. His debut album, These Streets, was released on 17 July 2006 and entered the UK Albums Chart at number three. The album produced hit singles including “Last Request”, which reached the UK top five, and it later received multi-platinum certification in the UK. His early success established him as a prominent UK solo artist during the late 2000s.
His peak chart period included both critical and commercial recognition. Sunny Side Up (2009) continued his UK success, and in 2010 he received an Ivor Novello Album Award. Nutini’s third album, Caustic Love, released in April 2014, debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and became a major selling title. Singles from this era included “Let Me Down Easy” and “Iron Sky”, and the album’s extended recording process reflected a shift towards deeper soul and R&B arrangements.
After a lengthy gap between studio projects, Nutini returned with Last Night in the Bittersweet in 2022, supported by major live dates and festival appearances. His later career has balanced periods of lower public visibility with concentrated touring and album cycles, with releases arriving less frequently than in his early years. The evolution of his sound across albums has been linked to changing influences rather than fixed genre boundaries.
Nutini’s catalogue includes multiple UK top 10 singles and several high-charting albums, including two UK number one studio albums. His records have achieved substantial UK and European certifications, and he has been recognised through songwriting honours as well as mainstream chart performance. Over time he has maintained lasting popularity in the UK and Ireland while continuing to attract international audiences through touring and streaming.
