Andrea Bocelli

Andrea Bocelli was born on 22 September 1958 in Lajatico, Tuscany, Italy. He is an Italian tenor, singer, and songwriter, widely regarded as one of the most successful classical crossover artists of all time. Bocelli was born with congenital glaucoma and became completely blind at the age of 12 following a football accident, yet continued to pursue his passion for music from an early age.

Bocelli studied piano, flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, and drums before focusing on vocal performance. He later studied law at the University of Pisa while continuing his musical training. His career began to gain momentum in the early 1990s after winning the newcomers’ section of the Sanremo Music Festival in 1994 with the song “Il mare calmo della sera”.

International recognition followed with the release of Romanza in 1997, one of the best-selling albums of all time. The album included the hit single “Time to Say Goodbye”, a duet with Sarah Brightman that achieved worldwide success. Bocelli continued to release successful albums throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, including Sogno (1999), Sacred Arias (1999), and Cieli di Toscana (2001), blending classical, operatic, and popular music styles.

Andrea Bocelli has performed at many of the world’s most prestigious venues and events, including the Olympic Games, the FIFA World Cup, and the Grammy Awards. He has collaborated with numerous artists across genres, further expanding his global appeal. His album Sacred Arias remains the biggest-selling classical album by a solo artist in history.

Throughout his career, Bocelli has received numerous awards and honours, including multiple World Music Awards. He has sold over 90 million records worldwide and has earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In addition to his musical career, he is also known for his philanthropic work through the Andrea Bocelli Foundation.
