Snow Patrol

Snow Patrol are a Northern Irish–Scottish alternative rock band formed in Dundee, Scotland, in 1994. The group is known for melodic rock and has achieved major international success in the 2000s, particularly through songs such as “Run” and “Chasing Cars”. 

The band began recording in the late 1990s, initially releasing albums with limited commercial impact before signing to a larger label and expanding their audience. Their breakthrough arrived with Final Straw (2003), which brought wider attention in the UK and Ireland and established them as a significant guitar band of the decade. 

Snow Patrol’s peak commercial era came with Eyes Open (2006), which included “Chasing Cars” and became a defining mainstream rock release of the period. By the mid-2010s, major reference sources commonly described the band as having sold more than 15 million records worldwide, reflecting substantial international reach for their 2000s catalogue. 

After continued touring and releases into the 2010s, Snow Patrol returned with further studio work following a hiatus. Their eighth studio album, The Forest Is the Path, was released in 2024 and reached number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, marking a prominent later-career chart return. 

Snow Patrol’s long-term reputation is rooted in durable radio and streaming popularity, with “Chasing Cars” frequently cited as one of the most-played UK songs of the 21st century in broadcast reporting. Their legacy combines 2000s international mainstream success with continued chart visibility and touring into the 2020s.
