Mumford & Sons are an English folk rock band formed in Greater London in 2007. The group’s core members are Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane, and they became internationally prominent for a style combining acoustic instrumentation with arena-scale songwriting. They are notable for achieving major chart success and for winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

The band built an early following through live performance and initial releases before breaking through with their debut album Sigh No More (2009). The album’s singles, including “Little Lion Man” and “The Cave”, became widely recognised and helped position the group within the late-2000s and early-2010s revival of folk-influenced pop and rock.

Mumford & Sons reached their peak commercial period with Babel (2012), which topped major album charts and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. During this era, the band became a prominent live act and a defining name in mainstream folk-rock, with their sound widely imitated and frequently referenced in discussions of 2010s guitar-based pop.

In later years, the group shifted direction with Wilder Mind (2015), adopting a more electric rock approach, and released the collaborative Johannesburg EP (2016). They returned with Delta (2018) and continued touring and recording activity into the 2020s, including line-up changes that left the band operating as a trio. In 2025, they released their fifth studio album Rushmere, and they later announced a further studio project scheduled for release in 2026.

Mumford & Sons have received major honours including Grammy and Brit Award recognition. Their long-term influence is associated with the mainstream resurgence of folk-rock in the 2010s and with a catalogue that has remained prominent across both acoustic and electric phases of their career.
