Rag "n" Bone Man
Rag’n’Bone Man is the stage name of Rory Charles Graham, born 29 January 1985 in Eastbourne, East Sussex, England. He is an English singer and songwriter associated with a blend of soul, blues and pop, noted for a baritone vocal style. He is best known for the single “Human” and for a rapid rise to mainstream prominence in the UK in the second half of the 2010s.
Graham grew up in Sussex and developed his early profile through local music scenes before wider attention. His first major chart breakthrough came with “Human”, released in 2016, which introduced him to a broad international audience. The success of the single led into his debut studio album, Human (2017), which placed him among the most visible British male solo artists of the period and established the core of his recording career with additional singles such as “Skin”.
His peak commercial moment is closely associated with the Human era. The album topped the UK Albums Chart and became a major seller, supported by prominent media appearances and touring. At the 2017 Brit Awards he won both the Critics’ Choice Award and British Breakthrough Act, and he later won a Brit Award for British Single of the Year with “Human”. The scale of the album’s performance made it a landmark debut in the UK market of the decade.
Rag’n’Bone Man continued with Life by Misadventure (2021), which also reached number one in the UK and reflected a shift towards more personal songwriting and a broader band-oriented sound. His third studio album, What Do You Believe In? (2024), expanded his catalogue with new singles and further chart success, continuing his work with major-label releases while maintaining the vocal style that first drew attention.
While comprehensive worldwide sales figures are not consistently stated across public sources, Rag’n’Bone Man’s early commercial impact is reflected in multi-platinum certifications and major UK industry awards. His work helped extend contemporary mainstream interest in soul-influenced pop and has remained a reference point in British popular music since his breakthrough.
