Vincent Damon Furnier, professionally known as Alice Cooper, was born on 4 February 1948 in Detroit, Michigan. He is an American singer, songwriter, and actor, widely regarded as a pioneer of shock rock. Alice Cooper is known for his theatrical live performances, which incorporate elaborate stage props, horror imagery, and dark storytelling elements.

Alice Cooper rose to prominence in the early 1970s as the lead singer of the band Alice Cooper, which originally formed in Phoenix, Arizona. The band achieved breakthrough success with the album Love It to Death in 1971, featuring the hit single “I’m Eighteen”. This was followed by a string of highly successful albums including Killer (1971), School’s Out (1972), and Billion Dollar Babies (1973). The latter became a number one album in the United States and established Alice Cooper as a major figure in rock music.

In 1975, Furnier legally adopted the name Alice Cooper and launched a successful solo career. His first solo album, Welcome to My Nightmare, was released the same year and became a commercial and critical success. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, he continued to release albums and tour extensively, maintaining a strong presence in the rock scene despite changing musical trends.

Alice Cooper experienced a significant career resurgence in the late 1980s with albums such as Trash (1989), which included the hit single “Poison”. The album introduced his music to a new generation of fans and restored his mainstream popularity. Over the following decades, he continued to release new material while remaining a popular live performer.

Alice Cooper has received numerous accolades throughout his career. In 2011, the original Alice Cooper band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in recognition of their influence on rock music. He has sold over 50 million records worldwide and has been credited as a major influence on many artists across rock and metal genres.

With a career spanning more than five decades, Alice Cooper remains one of the most enduring and recognisable figures in rock music. His unique blend of music and theatrical performance has left a lasting impact on popular culture.
