Mark Owen (born 27 January 1972, Oldham, Lancashire, England) is an English singer and songwriter. He is best known as a member of the pop group Take That, one of the most successful British acts of the 1990s and the group’s subsequent reunion era.

Owen grew up in Greater Manchester and began performing in his teens before joining Take That during the group’s formation in Manchester in 1990. Take That achieved their initial breakthrough in the early 1990s with a run of hit singles and albums that established them as major figures in British pop. Following the group’s split in the mid-1990s, Owen began a solo career, releasing his debut album Green Man in 1996.

Owen’s early solo success included the single “Child”, which reached the top tier of the UK singles chart, and helped position him as a charting artist in his own right. Take That’s commercial peak, however, encompassed multiple UK number-one singles and albums across the 1990s, and the group’s catalogue remained highly visible in British popular culture through radio and television exposure.

In the 2000s, Owen returned to prominence with Take That’s reunion, which began in 2005 and led to a sustained period of touring and recording. Alongside group activities, he continued to release solo material, including In Your Own Time (2003) and later albums that reflected a broader pop-rock and singer-songwriter approach. In 2013, he released The Art of Doing Nothing, followed by Land of Dreams in 2022.

As a member of Take That, Owen has contributed to a body of work associated with large-scale UK chart success and long-term audience reach. Take That have sold over 45 million records worldwide, and Owen’s parallel solo output has maintained his profile beyond the group’s releases, positioning him as a continuing figure in British pop music across multiple decades.
