Blossoms
Blossoms are an English indie rock band formed in Stockport, Greater Manchester, in 2013. The group’s core line-up includes vocalist and guitarist Tom Ogden, guitarist Josh Dewhurst, bassist Charlie Salt, drummer Joe Donovan and keyboardist Myles Kellock. They are known for melodic guitar pop with synthesiser textures and achieved sustained UK chart success from the mid-2010s onward.
The band built an early following through live performances and independently released tracks, attracting attention from UK music press and radio. Their early singles included “Charlemagne”, which became one of their first widely recognised songs and helped establish their profile ahead of a full-length debut. Blossoms signed a major label deal and prepared material that drew on 1980s-influenced pop structures alongside contemporary indie-rock production.
Their breakthrough came with the release of their self-titled debut album Blossoms (2016), which reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. The record included “Getaway” and “Charlemagne”, and was supported by extensive touring and festival appearances. The band’s accessible songwriting and concise arrangements positioned them within a wave of UK guitar bands returning to mainstream chart visibility during the period.
Blossoms maintained peak momentum with subsequent albums that also performed strongly in the UK. Cool Like You (2018) continued their chart presence and expanded their pop and electronic influences, while Foolish Loving Spaces (2020) reinforced their reputation as an album-oriented act with a consistent release cycle. In 2022 they released Ribbon Around the Bomb, continuing to combine guitar-led writing with synth-pop elements and narrative lyrics focused on relationships and local detail.
In the later phase of their career the band continued regular touring, including headline shows and prominent festival slots, and released further material while developing side projects and collaborations. Their output has remained relatively consistent across a decade of activity, with an emphasis on studio albums, limited-edition releases and live performance as the primary means of maintaining audience engagement.
While comprehensive worldwide sales totals are not routinely reported for the group, Blossoms have achieved multiple UK number-one albums and sustained radio play for their key singles. They are frequently associated with the 2010s revival of UK indie-pop in the charts and with a regional live circuit centred on Greater Manchester. Their continued prominence reflects a durable audience for melodic, guitar-based British pop and rock.
