Alfred Giovanni Roncalli Boe OBE, professionally known as Alfie Boe, was born on 7 September 1973 in Blackpool, Lancashire. He is an English tenor best known for his work in musical theatre, opera, and classical crossover music. Boe trained at the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied opera after being discovered while working as a car mechanic.

Boe made his professional opera debut in 1994 and went on to perform with leading opera companies, including the Royal Opera House and English National Opera. He gained international recognition for his portrayal of Jean Valjean in the musical Les Misérables, a role he first performed in London’s West End in 2010. His performance was met with widespread acclaim and he later reprised the role on Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2014.

Alongside his theatre work, Alfie Boe has enjoyed a successful recording career. His debut album, Classic FM Presents Alfie Boe, was released in 2006, followed by a number of chart-topping albums including Bring Him Home (2010), Alfie (2011), and Trust (2012). Several of his albums have reached number one on the UK Classical Albums Chart, establishing him as one of the most successful classical crossover artists in the UK.

In 2016, Boe collaborated with tenor Michael Ball on the album Together, which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart. The duo went on to release further successful albums, including Together Again and Back Together, and toured extensively across the UK and internationally. Their collaborations introduced Boe to a wider mainstream audience and further cemented his popularity.

Alfie Boe has performed at numerous high-profile events, including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert and the BBC Proms. In recognition of his services to music and theatre, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2019.

With a career spanning opera, musical theatre, and popular music, Alfie Boe has built a reputation as one of the UK’s most versatile and accomplished vocal performers. His recordings and live performances continue to attract audiences worldwide.
