Del Amitri are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1980. The group has been centred on songwriter and vocalist Justin Currie and guitarist Iain Harvie, with a changing supporting line-up over the years. Drawing on pop rock and roots-influenced songwriting, they became best known for 1990s singles such as “Nothing Ever Happens” and “Roll to Me”.

The band developed through Glasgow’s independent music scene in the early 1980s before signing to a major label and releasing their self-titled debut album in 1985. After an extended period of touring and further releases, Del Amitri achieved a wider breakthrough with Waking Hours (1989), which featured “Nothing Ever Happens” and established their style of melodic guitar pop with observational lyrics. The early 1990s brought continued chart success with albums including Change Everything (1992) and the single “Always the Last to Know”.

Del Amitri’s commercial peak came in the mid-1990s with the album Twisted (1995), which included the hit single “Roll to Me” and helped expand their audience outside the UK. Other notable songs from the period included “Tell Her This” and “Be My Downfall”, and the band maintained a presence on UK and international album charts through consistent touring and radio play. Their songwriting, characterised by concise narratives and a blend of acoustic and electric arrangements, positioned them alongside other guitar-based acts of the period while retaining a distinct Scottish identity.

After releasing Can You Do Me Good? (2002), the band entered a long hiatus, with members focusing on other musical work. Del Amitri reunited for live performances from 2013 and later returned to recording, releasing the studio album Fatal Mistakes in 2021. The group continued touring in the 2020s, drawing on their established catalogue alongside newer material.

Del Amitri have sold over six million albums worldwide, with their best-known singles remaining in regular radio rotation. Their music is often associated with 1990s guitar pop and alternative rock, and their songs have continued to be covered and included on retrospective compilations. Through a career spanning multiple decades, they have maintained a reputation for durable songwriting and a steady live presence, contributing to the broader history of Scottish rock and pop.
