Lucy Spraggan (born 21 July 1991) is an English singer-songwriter from Buxton, Derbyshire. Working in acoustic pop and folk-influenced songwriting, she became widely known after appearing on The X Factor in 2012, where her original songs attracted substantial attention. She has since maintained a recording career marked by regular releases and an emphasis on autobiographical lyric-writing.

Spraggan began writing songs at a young age and built early experience through live performance and independent releases. Before national television exposure, she released music independently, including the album Top Room at the Zoo (2011), which helped establish an audience for her acoustic style. Her breakthrough came in 2012 when she auditioned for The X Factor and performed self-written material, distinguishing her from many contemporary talent-show contestants.

Following her time on the programme, Spraggan signed a major-label deal and released Join the Club (2013), which became her first major chart success and placed within the UK top ten. The album-era singles and performances developed her profile as a songwriter within mainstream pop formats, while retaining an approach rooted in guitar-based arrangements and narrative lyrics. Subsequent releases built on this base and expanded her catalogue across multiple studio albums.

Spraggan’s later career has combined label and independent work, with continued album releases and touring activity through the 2010s and 2020s. Her output has included periodic stylistic shifts while maintaining a core focus on personal storytelling. She has also taken part in wider media work beyond music, supporting a public profile that has extended beyond chart performance alone. Across this period, she has remained active as a live performer and recording artist, particularly within the UK.

Spraggan’s legacy is closely tied to her role as an early example of an original songwriter gaining mainstream exposure through a prime-time talent format, and to the sustained output that followed. Her discography includes multiple UK-charting albums and a steady stream of singles, reflecting long-term audience support. She remains associated with a contemporary UK singer-songwriter tradition that bridges independent acoustic music and mainstream pop visibility.
