Mark Thomas Lawrenson was born 2 June 1957 and is a former Republic of Ireland international footballer who played as a defender for Liverpool, among others, during the 1970s and 1980s. He was signed by Liverpool in 1981 after playing for Brighton and Hove Albionof, for a record fee of £900,000. He went onto play for Liverpool 332 times in all competions and scoring 18 goals. He won 5 League championships, three league cups one FA cup, one european cup and one Football league super cup.

He played for the Republic of Ireland winning 39 caps and scoring 5 times between 1987-1997.

After his playing career ended, he had a a short career as a manager, but is best known as a radio, television and internet pundit for the BBC, TV3 and Today FM.
