Muhammad Ali: Muhammad Ali was born Cassius Marcellus Clay,Jr on January 17, 1942 and is a former professional boxer. Originally known as Cassius Clay, at the age of 22 he won the world heavyweight championship from Sonny Liston. Ali changed his name after joining the Nation of Islam in 1964, eventually converting to Islam in 1975. In 1967, 3 years after he had won the heavyweight championship, he was publicly vilified for his refusal to be drafted into the U.S. army, based on his religious beliefs and opposition to the Vietnam War. Ali was eventually stripped of his boxing title, and his boxing license was suspended. He did not fight again for nearly 4 years while his appeal worked its way up to the Supreme Court, where it was eventually overturned.Ali would go on to become the first and only three-time lineal World Heavyweight Champion.He was nicknamed "The Greatest", he was involved in many of the greatest boxing matches.Among those were 3 with rival Joe Frazier, which are considered among the greatest in boxing history, and one with George Foreman, where he finally regained his titles seven years after having them stripped.He became well known for his unorthodox fighting style, epitomized by his catchphrase "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee", and employing techniques such as the Ali Shuffle and the rope-a-dope. Ali brought beauty and grace to the sport of boxing and through the wonderful excesses of skill and character, he became the most famous athlete in the world. He was eventually crowned "Sportsman of the Century" by Sports Illustrated and "Sports Personality of the Century" by the BBC in 1999.
Ken Norton; Kenneth Howard Norton Sr was born August 9, 1943 and is a former heavyweight boxer and former WBC Heavyweight Champion. He was best known for his 12-round victory over Ali, when he famously broke Ali's jaw, becoming only the second man to defeat Ali as a professional after Joe Frazier.He and Ali would fight twice more in their careers, with Ali winning narrowly both return bouts, although many felt Norton truly deserved their third fight. Norton was awarded the WBC title, when Leon Spinks declined a title defense against him However, he lost in his first defense on a split decision to Larry Holmes.
Joe Frazier Joseph William "Joe" Frazier was January 12, 1944 and died November 7, 2011, he also known as Smokin' Joe and was a professional boxer, Olympic gold medalist and Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion, whose professional career lasted from 1965 to 1976, with a one-fight comeback in 1981.
He emerged as the top contender in the late 1960s, defeating opponents en route to becoming Undisputed Heavyweight Champion in 1970, and followed up by defeating Muhammad Ali by unanimous decision in the "Fight of the Century" in 1971. Two years later he lost his title when he was knocked out by George Foreman. He fought on, but his last world title challenge came in 1975,when he was beaten by Ali in their brutal rematch. He retired in 1976 following a 2nd loss to Foreman. He made a comeback in 1981, fighting just once, before retiring again. He is an inducted in both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.He was diagnosed with liver cancer in September 2011 and died November 7, 2011.
George Foreman George Edward Foreman was born January 10, 1949 and is a former professional boxer, former two-time World Heavyweight Champion, Olympic gold medalist. He took up took boxing and won the Heavyweight gold medal at the 1968 Olympics. He won the professional World Heavyweight title with a 2nd round knockout of then-undefeated Joe Frazier in Jamaica in 1973. He made 2 successful title defenses before losing to Muhammad Ali in "The Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974. He was unable to secure another title shot, and retired following a loss in 1977. But 10 years later, he announced a comeback and, in November 1994, at age 45, he regained the Heavyweight Championship by knocking out Michael Moorer. He remains the oldest Heavyweight Champion in history. He finally retired in 1997 at the age of 48.He has been inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Larry Holmes Larry Holmes was born November 3, 1949 and is a retired professional boxer. He grew up in Pennsylvania, which gave birth to his boxing nickname, The "Easton Assassin".
He was the WBC Heavyweight Champion from 1978 to 1983, The Ring Heavyweight Champion from 1980 to 1985, and the IBF Heavyweight Champion from 1983 to 1985. He made 20 successful title defenses, second only to Joe Louis' twenty-five.
Holmes won his first 48 professional bouts, including victories over Earnie Shavers, Ken Norton, Muhammad Ali, Mike Weaver, Gerry Cooney, Tim Witherspoon and Marvis Frazier, and fell one short of matching Rocky Marciano's career record of 49-0.He retired after losing a rematch to Spinks, but made several comebacks and was unsuccessful in 3 further attempts to regain the title, the last in 1995. He had his last fight in 2002 and ended his career with 6 losses. He has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.

After winning the bronze medal in the Light Heavyweight division at the 1984 Summer Olympics, he made his debut as a professional at the age of 21.He moved to the cruiserweight division in 1985 and won his first title the following year, he eventually won the Lineal, IBF and WBC titles, becoming the Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion.He moved up to heavyweight in 1988, defeating Buster Douglas for the The Ring, Lineal, WBC, WBA and IBF titles in 1990.He is the only 4-time World Heavyweight Champion, winning the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles in 1990, the WBA and IBF titles in 1993 and the WBA title in 1996 and 2000.
Riddick Bowe Riddick Lamont Bowe was born August 10, 1967 and is a retired American professional boxer. He is a former two-time World heavyweight champion, first winning the WBA, WBC and IBF titles in 1992, becoming undisputed heavyweight champion. His second reign as heavyweight champion was in 1995 when he won the WBO title. He retired in 1996 but made a return to the ring in 2004.
Lennox Lewis Lennox Claudius Lewis, CM, CBE was born 2 September 1965 and is a retired boxer and the most recent undisputed world heavyweight champion. As an amateur he won gold representing Canada at the 1988 Olympic Games after defeating Riddick Bowe in the final.He turned professional in 1989, winning his first 21 fights. In 1993 he was eventually declared WBC heavyweight champion.He lost the title to Oliver McCall in 1994 but defeated McCall in a rematch to win the vacant WBC title in 1997. He went on to defend the title 4 times, becoming the Lineal Champion after beating Shannon Briggs in 1998. He became undisputed champion after defeating Evander Holyfield in 1999. On defeating Mike Tyson in 2002 and stopping Vitali Klitschko in 2003, he retired from boxing in 2004.
Mike Tyson Michael Gerard "Mike" Tyson was born June 30, 1966 and is a retired American professional boxer. He is a former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world and holds the record as the youngest boxer to win the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles.He won his first 19 professional bouts by knockout, 12 of them in the 1st round. He won the WBC title in 1986 after defeating Trevor Berbick. In 1987, he added the WBA and IBF titles after defeating James Smith and Tony Tucker. He was the first heavyweight boxer to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles, and the only heavyweight to successively unify them.
In 1988, he became the lineal champion when he knocked out Michael Spinks. He successfully defended the world heavyweight championship 9 times, including victories over Larry Holmes and Frank Bruno. In 1990, he lost his titles to underdog James "Buster" Douglas, by a knockout,in one of boxing's greatest upsets. In 1992, he was convicted of rape and sentenced to 6 years in prison but was released after serving 3 years. After his release, he fought in a series of comeback fights. In 1996, he won the WBC and WBA titles after defeating Frank Bruno and Bruce Seldon. After being stripped of the WBC title, he lost his WBA crown to Evander Holyfield in 1996. Their 1997 rematch ended when he was disqualified for biting Holyfield's ear.
In 2002, he fought for the world heavyweight title at the age of 35, losing to Lennox Lewis. He eventually retired from professional boxing in 2006.He has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
